… And He Has A Sense Of Humour

Henry's directions to me on how to get to the Beachouse Hostel

So early this morning, I wake up and as it is in Fiji, nothing is really clear.  Times of buses, transportation options and routes, costs etc…  And to top it off, it is a Sunday, so things are even less scheduled on this day.

So I go into the office and there is Henry, as always, omnipresent.  You can always rely on him to have an answer.  “How do I get to Beachouse (yes it is spelled that way)?” I ask.  “You take the bus.” he replies.  “K,” I respond, “And what bus, where and how?”

He states a number of items and finally I say, “Can you perhaps write it down for me so I am clear.”  I don’t know Fiji very well and I have noticed things are not as structured as they are in Canada and I don’t want to be wandering around looking lost for those potential predators.  “I’ll write down the instructions for you,” he says.

As he starts writing, I joke to his “right hand man” Sam, “he needs to put in drawings for me, perhaps stick men.”  I was really only trying to be funny, but the resulting page of instructions you see above, are what resulted.

I thought it was just wonderful and it gave me a good laugh.  And I have to honestly say, I felt alot better once I had this in hand since now I actually knew how to get to Beachouse.

So that is where I am now.  I thought I would try a different hostel, recommended by Henry, on a different part of the island.  Not quite as rustic and family like as the Bamboo, but set on a beautiful ocean lagoon.  This place of course is a lot more established so it really is not a place for comparison.  And it is more expensive as well.

Well a storm is brewing and it is evening so I will fill you in on my Beachouse experience tomorrow.

What’s for dinner?
