Is it fair to be stressed about travelling?

O.K.  So I had to finalize my plans for traveling around the world.  Ironically enough, I was not getting a lot of sympathy from individuals when my big dilemma was whether I could get to Tahiti via Hawaii or whether I had to go straight through.  This concern actually kept me up at night given the fact that time is of the essence and I needed to book my trip.  Ultimately, with further investigation, I realized Tahiti was ridiculously expensive and as much as I wanted to get there, I was not will to fork out the “mulla”.

So change of plans.

So first stop Fiji.  Actually, I have finally booked my flight path and I have done this through Airtreks.com   Not that I am promoting anything in particular, but when I investigated using Star Alliance or Oneworld, which are consortiums and sort of have a tight grip on this sort of self-serve round the world ticket (aka RTW) the flight path I wanted to take would not work with either of them.  And to make things even more frustrating, there is no one you can call and talk to.

So inevitably, I found myself linked to Airtreks.com.  This came up through further research into RTWs.  And then using them was reinforced by a friend I have on Gabriola Island who told me they had used them a lot so I had my concerned alleviated.

Well the flight itinerary, which ultimately sets up my skeleton for my travels, has been determined.

So, keeping only the flight plane in consideration, NOT overland travel and other things which will be intermingled, this is the basic route, which will start on February 22 out of Los Angeles:

Los Angeles – Fiji – Auckland – Christchurch – Sydney – Kuala Lumpur  – Nairobi – Istanbul (3 months of overland through various countries taking me ultimately to …) – London – Reykjavik – Toronto.

So there you have the actual plane route.  Intermingle with that train, boats, buses etc… and there is a lot more texture.  But this gives you an essential route plan.  Main theme “Following the Sun and the Warmth”

However, getting that pinned down was actually very stressful.  Until that was done, the next stages (still to come) seemed out of reach.

How can I be stressed.  I am not really working right now, well not much, yet I am busier than I have ever been.  My goodness.  What a crazy world we live in.

So there you have it, let the games begin, the travel route is in place, and like the building of the house, that is just the foundation, the rest of the detail is still to come.
