O.k. days are spinning by. 5 Days until I start on the first leg of the journey which actually takes me home to Ontario to see the bulk of my family. Since they are on the last leg of this journey, I thought it important to see them first. But these last days on Gabriola certainly are busy. Still I have stuff to store. It just is never ending and has become the bane of my existence. Honestly, us North Americans and our crap. It just weighs ya down.
When I lived in my little 10 x 10 when I was building my house, I had everything I needed and was totally satisfied. I swear, I will never accumulate again. It’s determining what you really need and what you want though that is the challenge.
But back to my planning. I have had a number of challenges. I had wanted to sail from Turkey to Greece one way, but one way sails are hard to find. Also certain hotels that I have told are good to stay in, either don’t post their rates on line or seem not to have a reservation capability online – this basically refers to hotels in Malaysia and Kenya. Very frustrating. It is almost like you are forced to reserve without knowing the cost. Grrrr…. guess I am spoiled expecting efficiency via the internet for most things. I remember in the mid-90’s when internet addresses were still considered out of the norm. Funny how quickly we get spoiled.
So I find myself in a bit of a gray area where I want to plan some stuff but have to recognize that I cannot plan it all now. I have time and must not fret. Although I have found myself feeling more anxious as of late as the date to leave approaches.
Officially homeless and off to travel the world mostly on my own. Definitely leaves one feeling a little intimidated especially since I am not a young “chick” anymore. But with wisdom comes better strategizing. May my adventurous energy persist for my 6+ months of traveling. Not to mention my $$$$.
Alright, that’s all for now. I will update in a couple of days and at a minimum after my PAHHHTEEEE. Weeeeee. I also have to send a shout out to all my amazing friends on Gabriola who have been so helpful in my final weeks on the island. You are all stars and incredible. You will always be on my mind as I travel.
Stay posted! :o)
Four more days and I am having my going away party on Gabriola to the bulk of my friends. It seemed to be the best way to try and see everyone at once and also to say goodbye. Although I am also guilty of some shameless self promotion.
The Gabriola Sounder printed a great concluding article to my house building experience. You can read it at http://www.soundernews.com/fullstory/EkAZpAZFlEFXbmqJYo.shtml . What a gift that article was.
