Sydney Discovered!

Futuristic Sydney

O.K. many individuals I have chatted with over the past month said that Sydney was alright but nothing special.  Now maybe because I have not been in a city in awhile and have also been mostly in more remote nature based areas, but I like Sydney.  There is something very futuristic about it.  Its monorail rides in the air above the ground.  Many building are built in curves and podlike creations.  Somewhere hidden in all that is its historical beginnings.

Changing in time - old blends to the new

The city is bustling with people young and old.  The Australian men are delightful to look at.  And I like the Australian accent.  Shhhh … but I think I prefer it over the New Zealand accent.  I continually ask how am I best to discern the two?  The most consistent answer has been that Aussie`s say `six`for the number 6, whereas the Kiwis say `sex`.

Is that a platypus pushing through the centre of the trunk?

I am couch surfing in Australia.  There is a site, which I have listed on the side, called www.couchsurfing.org  This is an international site.  It`s main purpose is to connect traveling individuals in need of a `couch` with individuals who have a couch to spare.  In turn you get a number of nights sleeping on someone`s `couch` for free but also being able to jump right into the world and life of a resident.

A new group of friends met through my couch surfing host

My first couch surfing experience has been excellent having met a wonderful new friend Anthony.  Actually we had such fun hanging out for a day, going to the zoo, and basically chatting about everything we weremutually  interested in (well me likely nattering on a little longer) chatting about that I am sad to move on.   But the experience is like a bandaid.  Just take it off with one swift pull and the sadness of  moving on to the next adventure is short in duration.  Besides that is the beauty of travel.  Just over the horizon you have no idea about who the next individual it is that you are going to meet.  Such adventure.  How lucky am I?  A big shout out to Anthony however for providing me with such an excellent introduction to Australia.  You are a gentleman and a scholar.
