The Struggle of Traveling and Blogging Frequency

Do you see the face?? The start of this trips rock face collection.

So as you all know, one of the goals of my trip is to keep up my Blog.  This was pretty easy in Fiji where each place I went to had wifi and I was there on my own.  But now I am staying at my friends, to which I am very grateful.  However, they don’t have wireless nor do they need it.  So since I need to hook up my computer to internet I had to go out to find some wireless access.  I did.  A couple of cafes in the village had wireless hotspots.  So if you buy a coffee, you get the user ID and password and can get on.  However, as many of these places do, they limit it to 30 minutes.  Then nothing.  Well 30 minutes is not enough time to get done what I need to get done.  And I can only drink so much coffee!

However, off I went this morning to take advantage of this.  Well sure enough, the 30 minutes was up and then nothing.  Not only that, often times the wireless hotspot will let you get to the main provider and pay for more time.  But in this case it did not.  However, suddenly I was picking up a nearby lodge and was able to do just that.  So I am typing away and suddenly my signal is shot and I lose all of my entry.  What on earth happened?  So I look for some reason and sure enough a big ol’ tour bus had pulled up right beside the coffee shop and was blocking my signal to the lodge.

But the good news being that I was able to pay for more time and tomorrow I will go directly to the lodge and hopefully they will let me sit there and type away for a couple of hours.
However, it raised a couple of interesting things for me.  First of all, the obligation and duty I feel to ensure that I enter at least one daily blog if not more since I have a number of people checking daily.  Actually, my hits have been great.  I am somewhere near 2,700 since I left February 22, which is pretty darn good.  However a single hit is when a page is hit.  So one person can go to the blog and look at three different pages so that would be three different hits.  But nevertheless, I have had some pretty good traffic.  Family of course has been great as well as some friends.

Then there is the additional pressure of ensuring I keep my entries worthwhile and interesting and not just some drivel.  Well I guess one man’s drivel is another man’s drama.  (Hey I just made that up – my copyright – I claim it!!!)

However, just incase you are reading this and following my Blog dutifully, know that if a couple of days pass without an entry it is likely that I am having some challenge finding access to the internet but will as soon as possible.

I also notice how this agenda also changes how I look at traveling insofar as looking for accommodation that has internet access.  This never would have been something I would have worried about even 5 years ago.  Well I guess I could have also not cared about it this trip but part of my justification for taking this time to myself was to write.  And writing a blog everyday is akin to being a writer because as a writer you have to try and write everyday, even if you are not in the mood.

So there you have it.  My meanderings and explanations.  So don’t fade away if a blog has been  a couple of days coming.  Know that where ever I am, I am stressing about it!!
