My Hostel in Sydney in the Kings Cross area - neat area but the hostel is nothing to write home about - oh I am in a way ...
What a zoo getting back to Sydney. The plane left Ballina without a problem but then due to some security breach (16 people got through security before they realized the machine was not working) at 3:45 pm, they shut down the airport and had to evacuate. They then proceeded to make everyone that was already on planes or through security go back through. By the time our flight arrived at 6:10 pm we had to keep circling in a holding pattern until we actually got to land at 7:05. Then we had to sit on the tarmac as we were the 21 plane in line for a spot to unload. So finally at 8:15 we got into the airport. I phoned my hostel since they were going to do a pick up and for the next 1 1/2 hours the shuttle was 10 or 15 minutes away. Finally I arrived at the hostel at 10:30 pm. So hungry and thirsty I went out to find a pub.
Well I settled in with a beer and started writing. Then a group of young men came in and ended up sitting all around me. I got into conversation with them only to find out that they were only 18 years old. I couldn’t believe it. I thought for sure that they were at least 21.
One good-looking young chap asked me what I thought of him. Well, that’s sort of silly to ask an older woman a question where it appears that you are looking for ego stroking. So I called a spade a spade and I said I guessed that he was a little self-obsessed and ego-centric, along with being Nordic in looks and subtley shy. Well all his mates took a laugh at that and he was a little hurt. But, Matt “Chaspo” was his name, was a really nice guy used to getting the girls however.
Another one of his mates, Henry, was a lovely young gentleman. Another good looking young man, he did not display the same confidence as his buddy but he was really interested that I was writing. We had a bit of a conversation and I had to tell him that I thought he was an old soul and he shouldn’t sell himself short because he had a lot going for him.
Now if only I had been 20 years younger, could have been an interesting night. But all in all, I had to leave this group of attractive young boys and head to bed. Oh yes, to be young again, however I prefer being my age with my wisdom and confidence more in tact.
Must be great to feel old at 44 – how I wish!!!
I guess old is just a state of mind but when you see yourself through the eyes of 18 year olds you can feel a little motherly next to them!
And I am going to be a grandma! How did that happen?
Well to be straight up you had your first child at 21. Just math and stats really … :o)
Maybe I should start going out for a beer on my own. Stephanie had a party for 25 females graduating in Genetic Counseling and invited Anne and I to help prepare the food. We were there when the first two arrived and I was beginning to enjoy a “potentially” fun evening, when I suddenly found myself getting into the car to drive home.
JOHN
Ah but was the driving home your choice? :o)
Of course not. I indicated that going out for a beer on my own was something that I should start, because guess who was herding me out and into the car, with a “pointed stick”.
Ah yes – thus my implication!!!
