One thing about Australia is that you can see the weather systems forming and approaching. They said yesterday that storm clouds would be developing and all day long I watched out towards the ocean as the clouds formed and became darker. Well being on a GIANT island does help in weather watching. I wonder how accurate their weather guys are?
I must say, on another topic, that I think I am at my most serene and occupied when I am beachcombing. I can spend hours walking up and down a beach looking for treasures that Mother Nature has created and washed up on the shore. I try not to collect too many because what can you do with them all? But I like gathering them. Then I hold them in my hand for awhile, and over time just keep the ones that really speak to me. I don’t like the things that are perfect necessarily although they can be beautiful, but I like things that have been worn and shaped by the water and waves. I had a piece of leather with me so I decided to make a necklace out of this one piece of shell I found.
So now I have this unique necklace that no one else has and will always remind me of Australia. Maybe no one else will like it like I do, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Soon I will be off to Malaysia and then Africa where more beach time will be logged. When I think about it, I have always lived near water, whether it be Toronto (lake), Cambridge (I was on the river), Gabriola (ocean)… Even Smithers was surrounded by large rivers. I am not sure which body of water I like the best. Each have their own characteristics that are appealing. Which body of water do you like the best?
I must say that I most certainly like lakes the best. The ocean is very beautiful and powerful. But the peaceful silence and stillness of a lake is so tranquil for me, so calming. I also prefer fresh water for swimming and my most favourite place on our travel in Central America was the volcano crater-lagoon Apoyo in Nicaragua. The water was crystal clear and so warm. I could have swam and played in it all day. Oh wait! I did!!
I agree, I like the freshwater of lakes for sure as I don’t find salt water makes me feel clean. But when the ocean is warm enough it is nice and the colours and diversity of the water wildlife is more superior. But I would say I am a fresh water person over a salt water too.
