I am now in Ballina, well to be precise, I am house sitting in a lovely sprawling house with a pool and tennis courts on 13 acres on the bench overlooking Ballina. I am charged with taking care of the house, two dogs, fish, chickens and plants. It really is no biggie and the dogs are great. The location is beautiful. Very serene. Jeff and Rita, the couple whose house it is, are a lovely and loving couple. Jeff picked me up at the bus stop on Thursday and both he and Rita got to know me that afternoon and evening before they left for a holiday in Fiji with their two youngest sons.

The view from the verandah at Jeff and Rita's - the pool. That is actually the ocean in the distance but my camera couldn't demonstrate it.
This area is known as the Rainbow Region and so far given the weather, I can see why. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it is a very lush region that sits in one of the worlds largest volcano caldera’s. This big bowl is home to a lot of agricultural produce. After just chilling on Friday enjoying the house, swimming, going for a run, Saturday I hopped in their car (which they are letting me use) and drove for the first time in two months. Boy was that weird and on the other side of the road too. Talk about stressful initially. But by the end of the day, I was feeling more comfortable. Throw in roundabouts too and phew!

Saturday, I took the diggity dogs to an off leash beach up in Lennox Head. Ballina, which is all of 10 minutes away, has 30 km of beaches. Talk about lovely. Can’t get enough of them, beaches that is. The dogs, a mother daughter pair, Neo and Chewy, love diving in the surf. It is quite fun to watch. Actually it is funny, because when Neo gets too hot hanging out on the verandah, she takes a dip in the pool to cool off. At first I didn’t know what had happened when I found her all wet on the deck, but using my exceptionally strong sense of deduction (cough cough sputter sputter), I put it all together.
Talk about lovely – I would house sit there any day!!! How long are you there for?
I’m here until the 19th.
Wow! Nice place to chill out! Doors open for you Sara because you are a genuine person. Celebrate your radness:)
Yup – not too bad. Life is good. I like that word – radness! Better than redness!!! :o)
i’ll come have a game with you if you’d like, although i doubt I’d be much more of a challenge than the dogs. love you and miss you, lauren
Sure – fly on over… I’m sure you can handle a racquet better than the dogs!!! Miss and love you as well. Hope all is well back in the maple leaf country.
Driving on the other side of the road – must be the same as the u.k. I always found it quite a challenge at first too. Nice to have the use of their car.
