Wait, Wait, Are We Sure We Have Everything?

The truck packed full of camping gear

So my third couch host, James, picked me up at the Sunshine Coast airport on Friday and we came back to his place, a beautiful home in Coolum Beach, to pack up to go camping.  James is an eager new camper just loving the experience.  He did warn me that we weren’t going to do the roughing it sort of camping that he prefers, but a more social hanging out sort of camping at an area where most of your amenities are provided.  We have them in Canada – camping grounds mainly where people drive in with their camper vans etc…  Anyway, James had all the goodies to make camping a luxury.  His well packed truck turned into a small house when we got everything out.

I had a blow up mattress and we even had a “dunny” with its own tent set up even though there were toilets there.  The only thing James regretted not bringing was his roasting pot since we could not have a fire.  But we had a great spot just behind a sand dune on what is called as the North Shore Beach.  And what an amazing beach it was with the surf non-stop – well it is known as a surfing beach.

The beach that extended for kilometres in either direction with a surf that constantly asked for you to jump in

James was very attentive to making sure I was to experience as much of an Aussie experience as possible including meeting some great new Aussie friends.  Although poor James was the only “bloke” he held his own against 6 very outspoken and highly humourous females (me included) who were Karen, Jacqui, Kelli, Sue and Carolee.  I have not laughed so much in a long time.

K - which one is the kangaroo???!!! These guys were hanging around the campground. Pretty cool beasts to watch

So an Aussie experience I got, seeing kangaroos up close, goannas, going for a typical beach drive to go fishing, fishing and also catching a fish and all the fun Aussie hospitality and humour.  I gotta say, I have found the senses of humour with the Aussie’s to match mine quite well.

Hey Goana - slow down - I'm trying to take this picture
