Another Day in Rome … Do as the Romans Do

Chris, me and Shane infront of some big honkin' building at about midnight in Rome

Once again, good new friends, good people and fun times.  After walking about 20 kilometres my first day in Rome, I was famished and just looking for a place that was cheap.  I stumbled into a little joint called the Living Room.  Partly I decided to stop there because it had a bunch of young Aussies out front and it felt familiar.  As I am sitting there enjoying my pizza, a man asks if he can use the edge of the table.  “Of course” I say.  And we begin to chat.

Me being me, and well, Chris being Chris. I think this was about 2 am

And that is how I met Chris.  A really cool guy from Australia.  As we sat and chatted, another bloke, named Shane, joined us.  Shane is from Dublin, Ireland.  Shane is a sweet young bloke breaking out on his own and finding his independence.  He convinced Chris and I to go to some Irish Bar for some reason I never quite figured out.  So we agreed and hopped on a bus at midnightish and got off the bus still far away from out destination.  Luckily I had a map.

Shane and his friend Aisley show us how its done.

But we finally made it to the Irish Pub where we meet his Irish friend Aisley.  She also was just lovely.  Aisley has been living in Italy for the past year and works at the pub.  So we did what everyone does at a pub… we got silly.

At some point we headed to another place because Shane wanted to go their for their 1 euro shots.  There they had these funky couches that Aisley and I tried out for size.

After that we were a little nippish so found a  pizza joint.  I think at this point it was about 3 am and we headed back to the Irish Pub where an entire Norwegian football team had arrived.  I tried out my little bit of Norwegian on them and they had a good laugh.  Well Shane and Aisley were on a roll but Chris and I were started to wane.  It was waaaayyy past my bedtime.  So we found a taxi and headed back to our respective places of recline.  I think I finally got to bed at 4 am and even got up at 9:30 am to carry on with my investigation of the Roman ruins.  Can’t do those kind of night very often.  They are a killer regardless of how much fun they are.  However, once again I was sad to leave new found friends.

Earlier in the evening outside the Living room all of us fooling around.
