Civitella del Tronto

Civitella del Tronto from not too far away - a neat little medieval town

Where does the time go.  There is never enough time in one day.  I started off at 6:30 am with a 30 minute bike ride.  Walked the dog, ate breakfast, caught up on computer stuff (which by the way, eats a lot of one`s time), headed off for some exploration of nearby (relatively speaking) little towns with the intention of going for a hike and then a swim at the public pool.  Well I started off needing to grab some stuff in Montorio so by the time I hit Civitella del Tronto, we were already getting close to 10:30 am.

Well the fortress at Civitella del Tronto was another interesting find.  And given that this area for the most part is not a tourist destination, there were not many people there as I was going through it.  This made for a very interesting serene and quiet explore.   Its construction started in 1564.

Part of this very large Fortress

I keep thinking, ya if I`ve seen one, I`ve seen them all.  But they all have their own energy and characteristics that make them unique.  I am sure from afar the pictures just start to blur and look all the same.  But they are not.  This one is exceptionally interesting they way it is perched on a top of a mountain overlooking its associated city on the slope and then surrounded on all sides by valleys which are dotted with little villages and agriculture.

I also really enjoyed the associated city right below the wall.  It is quite a medieval little place with some of the most idyllic little streets I have seen in many of the walled towns I have visited.

Streets, stairs and tunnels through the city

It also lays claim to the narrowest street in the world or Italy, one of the two, where some people could literally get stuck.
