So many different opinions and so many ways of seeing the world. A new woman arrived today at the Villa. She is from South Africa. She had a low tolerance sort of energy about her. She is about my age. She is also travelling for about 8 months but she has done this many times before and this is her last around the world go in this manner as she will have completed most of the world this time with even Canada finally getting a hit this time.
She works in corporate administration and works and saves up long enough to do these trips and then resigns. Not married and no kids. She says this is likely the last time she will travel budget though as she has no more patience for it. This I can see. She seems a bit bitterly and solemn. I hope that is not what I am like. I dont think so as I love meeting people and by doing a combination of accommodation approaches my tolerance for all of them is good.
In contrast to me she is not on a journey but is just travelling. She said she didn’t think you could do the kind of searching I am doing while travelling. I disagreed. But to be honest aside from our age and marital-mum status I think our commonalities stop there.
This travelling does give one food for thought. You see many reflections of yourself in other people’s eyes. Some good, some bad. Depends where your head is. There is not a large demographic at my age doing what I am doing so bumping into similar aged people is a bit more rare. Bumping into like-minded people is common. Meeting great people but having to move on sometimes is sad.
Anyway, life is good, still working on those tapes that play in my head and not letting other people’s opinions distract me too much. It’s the believing in yourself that matters the most regardless of what other people think. Besides, I am the only one who has to wake up in this body everyday. K. Enough of my diatribe. Off to Italy.
What was that last photograph about – an arm only -very strange!!!
Yes you must meet a lot of people you enjoy being with and you cannot keep in touch with everyone – must be hard although that is not what your journey is about!!!
Ooops – fixed that – thanks mum – picture was way too large.
Hey sara
I dont think you are anything like this woman having spent a small amount of time with you (in which we climbed over port fences) I felt you had a great zest for life. And I do think its possible to find yourself or at least the person you want to be while traveling (for i feel that happening to myself) its committing to being this person you love once you get home.
If you’re in vancouver give me a shout I’d love to get a drink and chat some more
Hey Jenn
thanks for visiting my blog. I try to add entries daily so feel free to keep coming back. That is also known as shameless self promotion. It was great meeting you and I will definitely keep in touch. Have fun in your travels too.
Ciao for now. Sara
Love you sis … absolutely the way you are. Wouldn’t have it any other way and as for everyone else in the world, I lucked out and got YOU as my sister. HA! Guess you can look at this statement many ways. My point is, I am happy to be your sister.
The feeling is mutual. I love me too – just joking. No but seriously, thanks.
