I’ve mentioned either in my current location box or in other posts, that travelling can be quite exhausting. I am not complaining but it is amazing how much being constantly on the move living out of a knapsack can cause you to be very tired. I didn’t realize how tired I was until I arrived at my little hideaway in Cologne. Way back in April I posted while in Malaysia about a really nice couple I met who were from Cologne – Felix and Ines. We had three or four days to get to know each other and they helped celebrate my birthday. They started travelling at the beginning of February and were on a six month excursion. I told them I was hoping to visit Germany and they were so kind as to offer me their apartment if I was interested for when it might be empty as their house sitter was leaving early. So always eager for a normal setting I kept in touch with them to take them up on this offer. And what a sweet little place this is.
It is two levels with everything you need. Ines and Felix are the type of people I find really interesting. They are spiritual but not religious, they are curious and interested in other cultures. They love nature and peace within. So naturally I find the expression of themselves in their home and thus why it is so comfortable. Well the first three days I got here I was just wanting to chill and do nothing and that I did. It was only yesterday on my 4th day in Cologne that I actually got into the city, even though their place is still central and just outside of the old city.
So the city centre is totally within walking distance. So now that I have got my orientation, have located a gym 20 minutes walk away, and a yoga centre, literally right around the corner, I am set up until the end of July to catch up on plans, posts, and other personal affairs, explore Cologne and the surrounding area, and get back in shape.
Well rested and sorting out my next steps I am looking forward to exploring Cologne. So stay tuned.
I looove your Cologne hideaway and it seems to be the perfect place to recharge. You know, I can see myself living there. I wonder if Felix and Ines would need another housesitter in the near future? HAHAHA
May I make some suggestions for Cologne attractions?
Since you like the Roman period so much, how about visiting the Roman-Germanic Museum on Roncalliplatz? Or how about the Overstolzenhaus on Rheingasse? It goes without saying that you have to visit the Cologne Cathedral, but how does the Schokoladen Museum sound? It sounds delicious to me. 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions – yes I was actually going to the Roman-Germanic Museum today – I went to the Preatorium yesterday. I will check out the other two as well. Have been to the Cathedral, just have not posted on it yet. I love museums – can spend hours in them.
You’re welcome for the suggestions. I just had to help a fellow museum lover. I also can spend hours in one museum. I look at everything and I read every description….drives my family nuts. 🙂
Be careful when you visit the chocolate museum unless you are not a chocolate lover, but who isn’t, eh?
I look forward to your Cathedral post and pictures.
Cathedral posted – plus lots more church pictures to come.
Of course, I have checked out your Cathedral post by now. 🙂
Any chance of more door and/or window pictures? I love those.
By the way, have you seen any more iron bronze statues; for example, the devil in Sweden? If I remember correctly, Germany has many of those statues in squares. Just wondering….
Yup – have lots of window and door pictures – will have to think of a post topic to put them in in a nebulous way!
I have seen some statues but not too many – I will have to keep my eye out for them.
First I thought that the statues I saw were mostly in southern Germany; i.e. Bavaria, but that is not the case. It appears that bronze statues are displayed in towns and cities throughout Germany, so I do hope that you find some more. 🙂
I will keep my eye out for them – if only this rain would stop
We are in the midst of a heat wave – not complaining though. Thanks for the postcard – Dubrovnik looks beautiful.
Must be nice – good sun in Luxembourg but back to more rain here in Cologne
