This post is just a cheap excuse to post some really interesting historical shots of the Brocklehurst side of my family. But actually it was really interesting hearing all the stories from Rosalee, Pam’s mother, about my father’s family. Of course she was married to Terry, my Dad’s brother, for a very long time. Terry died in 2005. My father died in 2004. Everyone in my Dad’s family except Terry died of heart attacks. Well Terry ultimately had a stroke, but he suffered from Parkinsons first. Even my father’s parents died of heart attacks.
Given how much I take after the Brocklehurst’s genetically, in looks and personality, I am pretty confident that is how I will die. But as natural causes of death go, I think a heart attack is a pretty good way to do. Ideally in one’s sleep. And ideally with a stong enough heart attack that you don’t survive. I once saw a man die infront of me in a pub in Terrace, B.C. of a heart attack. For the couple of minutes you are still conscious and experiencing it, I understand that is quite painful. But it is short lived and then that’s it. A body’s engine can only work for so long afterall.
Of course this post is not about dying but more about Brocklehursts. I always love old photographs as they just seem to say so much. The one above of my grandmother is an interesting one because she actually looks kind and happy. In her later years she ruled her family with a harsh hand. From what I hear, she was not the most forthcoming with demonstrating or giving love. But some of the stories I have heard about my father’s family would have to wait for a book. Because to be honest, reality is stranger than fiction! But at least they weren’t boring!
Who ever accused the Brocklehursts of being boring? Not me…
I looove your old family photos. Thanks for sharing them.
Even if you do share the Brocklehursts’ looks and personality, I’m sure that you are healthier…. 🙂
Nope, you can’t miss her in them there hot pink Doc’s, lol. She is proper poorly today… lying on the coach, feeling very sorry for herself!!
Oh oh – poor thing. Tell her to think of her doc martens and then she’ll feel better.
