I stayed at Saint Christopher’s Inn Hostel in Berlin and it was really amazing. The first couple of nights in my dorm room were two crazy :o) Aussie girls, two Aussie guys and a guy from South Africa. We all hung out a little bit but I couldn’t keep up with those 20-somethings. They could stay up all night and I don’t like doing that anymore. But we did have some fun together.
They certainly gave me lots of laughs and memories. Actually Phillip and Luke, two of the group, live in London, so I may very well look them up when I get there towards the end in September – so watch out you two!
Blackberrys don’t work very well for taking pictures in low light. However, I have to say that the best part of all my travelling has been the people I have met and ironically it has been mostly the German people who I have been able to meet up with again on their home turf – Jurgen (met in Istanbul), Marcus (couchsurfed at his place in Lecce), Thomas (met in Melaka), and Felix and Ines (met in Langkawi). And it is these people who have been able to show me their home areas through their eyes and that has made a huge difference. As fellow travellers we all understand the experience and the world that travelling exposes one to. I am a little sad that I will not have a chance to visit Nuno, another new friend, on his turf in Porto, Portugal – soon though. Gotta go back to Canada first.
I hope to keep in touch with them all and see them again once I am back living overseas. It is such a smaller landmass than Canada and so easy to jump from place to place. That is the draw to me. I also need to get to Tunisia. I met a really nice person, Amine, also in Berlin who is from Tunisia and he was telling me all about it and there are certainly a lot of things about the country that attract me. So I must go there now too. So much to do and so many places to see. O.K. German Comparative coming soon, East Wall Gallery Post as well, but first I have to get my butt out in Amsterdam to check out the city.
Doesn’t sound as though you intend to settle back in
Canada – hope you will not be too far away. Glad you are meeting so many interesting people on you travels.
Well it shouldn’t come as a surprise!!!
I cannot believe that you have met these people who are just as silly/crazy as you. 🙂
I have to agree with you….it is amazing how one can cross a border in Europe and is transported to another country with a new language and culture after haven driven just a few hours.
By the way, I look forward to your Germany comparative.
