Live Football – Yeehaw

Heading to Loftus Road Stadium for the football match

So I afforded myself the opportunity to go to a live football match on the first night I arrived in London.  Why not I say?  I love sports and I love watching sports and I gotta tell ya, those football (aka soccer in NA) boys have the best bods and endurance.  So – yep – had to have the experience.  I am so glad I did – even if I was on my own.

Announcing QPR team

The place was packed.  It was a Premier League game – Queen’s Park Rangers and Newcastle.  I did not know who I should be rooting for so I bought a scarf that had both.  Talk about being safe.  But I am glad I did when I arrived at the stadium and my ticket clearly said “home team seats”.

Football action

It was very loud, very energetic and a lot of fun.  Although the game ended up being a 0-0 draw, QPR clearly outplayed Newcastle, who I am to hear later in the night, are not living up to their past potential.

Some action of the game on video

After the game, which I hightailed before getting lost in the post game traffic, by chance I met up with Irene and John from Northern Ireland.  John comes over as often as he can to watch QPR.  A tried and true fan and devoted attendee.  They were such wonderful impromptu friends who bought me a drink – or was that two – as we chatted about everything under the sun.  Most of the time I could understand them!

Irene and John after the game - new friends

So all in all, I have to say that the game was a hoot.  I wish there had been a goal and I would have witnessed a stadium go up in cheers.  So close, so many times.  But QPR will be going up in the standings if their performance in this game is any indication.  It was a great experience and I would do it again anyday.  How lucky am I?

A corner kick – unresolved!

A failed corner kick - gosh darn!
