I have been in BC since May 1996. It is now October 2011 and I am driving away. I have said my goodbyes to my friends although I am sure I will see many of them again. I have managed to reduce all that I own to a carload, although I feel I could still get rid of more. It was quite the endeavour to get rid of stuff. Towards the end I just started getting very ruthless because I just didn’t have the space.
I had a very busy two weeks almost everyday and night seeing people. Some were quite amazed that it had been 8 months since I had left on my trip. Gabriola is still the same with some changes. But as I keep saying Plus Ca Change Mais Plus C’est La Meme Chose – assuming I have got that right.
Last night I had a lovely dinner with Grin and Peter, the couple whose little house I was able to use both before I left on my trip and this time as I tied up loose ends. Alanna and I had quite a number of occasions were we were able to hang out. Judy and Jemma were also great. There are some people I didn’t really get to see. But what can you do.
So now I am in a hotel. Tomorrow I am heading to Canmore to see my girlfriend Melanie whom I have not seen for 8 years. Time flies. And then I have to decide whether I drive through the States or Canada for my following three days of driving.
The States would be cheaper and more interesting but I have not been through Saskatchewan and Manitoba and sort of feel that I should see them. We’ll see. Seeing my country versus saving money…hmmm.
So tomorrow I will say goodbye to BC. Enough of the ferries and enough of its politics. Time for new shores.
May I make a suggestion re. which country to drive through?
I would pick the US, because a) it is cheaper; b) it would be more interesting and c) it is cheaper. But seriously, while you are in ON, you could always drive back to SK and MN. Besides, aren’t the Pariries just flat and boring and I always thought that you like mountains….
All very true points and I am debating them with myself. I highly doubt once I got to Ontario that I would go back to the Prairies as I have not chosen to go there for 45 years… so it is sort of a thing I would be forced to do.
