Bulow’s Bustling Business

Yup - one cool chick ready to move Christmas trees in the frosty morn!

My friend Hannah owns/runs one of the two Bulow’s Garden Centres.  I asked her back in October if there was ever anytime she needed help to let me know because I am so drawn to working outside and with plants.  You just can’t go wrong.  Mother nature never let’s me down for her therapeutic gifts.

How beautiful is Mother Nature's kiss of frost?

So Christmas Tree season has rolled around and Hannah has asked me to help her and her employee Phillipa with the Christmas Tree and garlands rush.  It has been a blast.  This past weekend, the garlands looked so beautiful Saturday morning with a dusting of frost.  My main role has been to hang the trees from the timber frame structures and to bring them down again as customers pick out their favourite.

Bulow Garden Centre - no really? read the sign!

I remember when I was young I always wanted a pine Christmas tree because I liked the long soft needles.  You don’t see those ones anymore.  Now it is largely Fraser Fir, as they are known to keep their needles the longest, and some Balsam Fir.  It is also interesting because people want these massively round thick trees whereas I would prefer and more lean triangular tree with less density so there is more room for ornaments.  But each to their own.

The flow of customers has been steady and the day flies by as I bring trees down, tie them to people’s cars and string more trees up.  I was absolutely exhausted after the  first day.  Slept like a baby.  On Saturday we sold 41 trees.  Sunday, because of the rain, it was a little slower and sold about 27 I think.  It was funny how just as the rain started to pick up at the end of the day – that was when everyone started showing up.  Go figure.

Getting eaten by a tree! Ahhhhh!

So one more weekend to go of Christmas trees.  The weather is a bit unseasonably warm, but I can’t complain as it is nicer to sell trees in this weather than freezing cold and snow.  And the forecast for the weekend looks like the warmish sunny weather will hold.  Lucky for me.  Alright trees, here I come!
