The Unexpected Beautiful Buffalo

The gorgeous Mansion on Delaware Ave., Buffalo

I have not been to Buffalo for a long time.  Infact, I rarely think of Buffalo as a place to go.  But perhaps I have done it a disservice.

This past weekend, my friend David and I went to Buffalo.  We stayed at this amazing place called The Mansion on Delaware Ave.  Also known as M.O.D.A.  This glorious house was built in 1869 for only three people but also to accommodate 12 servants.  Three people with 12 servants???  Something just doesn’t seem right there.  But regardless.  Here we were and this building was magnificent.  Our room was perfect for what it needed to be with all the amenities and perks associated.  They had a butler service with a gentleman driving us around and taking care of our needs.  He was wonderful.  His name was Marty.

David and I enjoy our complimentary wine - ignore the blur in the corner - the camera took the photo itself!

We also had a complimentary couple of drinks at 5 pm and ended up playing pool in the parlour until 12 midnight or something like that.  Anyway, all in all, it was a wonderful visit and a surprise to me.  Apparently Delaware Ave. used to be the Millionaire’s Mile.  And you can certainly see this was probably the case when you walk down the street and see the amazing homes that line the street.  I had hoped to take more pictures but due to a late night, late morning and snowy weather, I didn’t get a chance.  But it does make me want to go back to get some better pictures and to take in this historic area that.  Many of the houses are Renaissance or Gothic in style.  I found it quite exceptional.

And there are quite a number of lovely pubs and sports bars as well that boast an thriving and active night life.  So needless to say, it was a lovely sojourn and getaway – a chance to spend some quality time with a good friend and to reacquaint with a close-by U.S. city that I have not thought about much in many years but does deserve to be remembered.
