Seriously You Stupid Deer???

Car crunched - damn deer

K.  Yes I am a biologist, and I do care about animals.  Big time.  But when you are driving along a country road at 80 km/hour and out of the blackness a stupid deer decides to jump in front of you because, I don’t know why, maybe they are on a suicide mission, then I don’t care too much for them.  Yes I know that we humans have introduced cars and roads into their world – but this has been around for awhile now and survival of the fittest really must still apply.\

Just kind of crunched it up like paper, yet no airbags deployed - didn't really need them - kudos to the echo for responding in the way it did.

I was lucky in many ways, as the deer could have bounced up onto and into my windshield and killed me, but this did not happen.  Infact, it was quite surreal.  Suddenly in my headlights I see this leaping figure right in front of me, no time to swerve, brake or anything.  As you can see by the damage, I almost hit it head on but not quite.  It was a big white tailed deer.  A person behind me said they saw it get up and race into the woods – no meat for me I guess :o(.   I did not even change from my course but suddenly my one headlight was out and I had little brakes.  It took me about 500 m to glide to a stop on the side of the road.  Engine had cut out.

Deer goo on the car.

I’m thinking I probably hit it pretty solidly in the side.  It is likely dead now and so is my car.  The real downer is that this car was in excellent shape and probably had another 10 years left in it.  Fully paid off, cheap to run.  Now after insurance settlement and paying my deductible, I’ll be lucky to get a beater half of its caliber.  How frustrating.  The next thing that runs through my mind is “why?”.  Why did this happen now and what is the universe trying to tell me?  Is mother nature saying “Hey, pay attention!” or is it a message to slow down?  Or what?  This is what I am not sure about.  Anyway, bye bye faithful car.  Time to let go yet again.  It could have been a lot worse.  Always look on the bright side of life!

Just amazed by the damage
