Wonderful Wales

A really tiny horse

All that this post is about is pictures.  Once again an excuse to post my pictures.  I take so many that it seems a shame I only post so few.  But I won’t bore you too much.  Then again, I imagine the pictures can be more interesting than my drivel that comes out of my head some days.

The old kilns in the bay near Newport.

Wales is quite a beautiful country.  Although it is now part of England and has been since the 1400s, well so to speak, it is a very unique country.

Life against the odds

They are only 3 million people and they have fought hard to retain their culture.  The economy however is struggling and unemployment is high – higher than the rest of Britain.

Trying to capture the amazing patchwork of land through the fog

But the Welsh language is strong.  Everywhere the signage is in both English and Welsh.  Kids do their schooling in Welsh and most of them are fluent.  It is such an interesting language to listen to.  It has flavours of Scandinavia in its sound and is one of the last remaining Celtic languages.

It's wildness expressed

A very rugged and beautiful land, serene, pastoral and yet vigorous and alive.  I highly recommend a visit.  And the Welsh team won the Six Nations Rugby.  Congratulation Wales!

Ah - the coast of Wales ...
