France As Only The French Can Do It

Beautiful statues from the 17th (?) century placed in the old Roman pool

It is fair to say, that after a month in Britain, coming to France was initially a culture shock, which I am sure would lessen with time.  But there are some things that are distinctly French.

Nifty trees around the Royal Square in Monpellier - and if you look carefully you can see young love snuggled in the background

The smelly creamy cheeses, French wine, French cuisine, the pride of French couture, which can be seen in all the stores.  The elegance to which to the French men and women, for the most part, dress.  The smoking, both by men and women alike – although not good for you – they do make it appear sexy.  The outward and unabashed love and affection that can be observed with the young and the old.  The appreciation of aesthetic, which even I got to enjoy as men of all ages checked me out!

Looking towards the sky around the old Roman arch in Nimes

There also is the history and the architecture.  There is the flourish with which the French love to decorate and enhance their buildings.  Baroque is well presented here as it is in Italy.  The grandiosity of their buildings with a softness and style that is not the same elsewhere.  And their pride – the French pride.  Well of course, the language as well.  And yet also the fabulous pastries – patisseries – which the Palmier is my favourite.

It's in the details I say

Also the French seem good at moderation.  How can you eat such rich foods and drink wine and nibble on cheese and still stay so slim.  Apparently they have a very low occurrence of heart disease yet their diet is very rich.  And the smoking and wine – so I have no quick answers.

Guess it's just a piece of art because there was no bike store near by or the other half

They never seem in a rush to serve you, which makes me wonder how they manage to continue to be patronized.  Then again, there are so many brasseries, that if you don’t like one, you can just go on to the next.

And with the old, comes the new, in the Ley River in Montpellier

I have had a stop and start sort of experience.  Meet some really wonderful people and having some not so nice interactions that leave a bad taste in my mouth.  It is all about nuances and understanding a culture really.  Because if we go with the old adage, a person’s behaviour towards you is more about them than it is about you.

Well and I just thought this statue had such a great butt!
