The Gifts Life Gives Us

Danny, David, George, Jon and me - guess which one is me ... ha!

I have just returned from this fantastic adventure.  What a gift.  I was given the opportunity to help relocate a private yacht from Barcelona to SW England.  I didn’t actually start in Barcelona but met up with the boat and crew in Lagos here in Portugal.  Nine days at sea.  Wow.

Misty Blue - our island in the sea

We sailed up the coast of Portugal, stopped in at Baiona, Spain and then carried on across the Bay of Biscay to the English Channel.  Three and a half days across the Bay of Biscay with no land in sight and it was fine, fine, fine.  Didn’t bother me at all.  But then again, the boat is like an island of its own and it does help that there are other people on board.  Amazingly, you would think that you would get antsy and bored, but you don’t.  You just settle into a routine and time passes in a strange way.

Me - hanging on - nah - enjoying the amazing weather on the ocean

Anyway, there were 5 of us on board: George, the skipper, David, Jon and Danny, yachtmasters, and me, the newbie learner.  We rotated two hour watches every 6 hours with my watches being 8 – 10 pm, 4 – 6 am (ugh – that one was challenging) and 12 – 2 pm.  But given the time, it afforded me these incredible opportunities of seeing the sun set and rise.  It was absolutely amazing.  Mother Nature is such a tremendous beast.  I love her.

One of the amazing sunsets - this one the night of the full moon

Anyway, I have oodles of pictures and lots to write about.  So this is just a taster.  Not to mention my videos of dolphins playing with us.  So this will just be the first post.  More to come.
