I am so lucky, that I will be returning to Bergerac to do a couple of house sits in some beautiful homes for people I met on my last visit. How lucky am I? As I always say, the journey through life is about the people you meet not the destinations.
Anyway, as I mentioned in an earlier post, Bergerac, well the old town, is just lovely. As well, there is a vibrant market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. The area is surrounded by agriculture so the produce is so good and tasty.
And of course there is the wine. French wine. Lovely wine. I only tasted a little bit of it.
But this post is really just another excuse to post some more pictures of the town. When I return for my house sits, I will have the opportunity to explore as I will have cars at my disposal.
The other thing I loved about being in Bergerac, was being able to use my french. It is rusty and I have a lot of comprehension and grammar to brush up on, but it is so great to be able to, for the most part, speak and understand the language. This is in such contract to Portugal where I have not been too successful learning the language. I have to say, that I am not a big fan of Portuguese – the language – it’s sound – and perhaps that is why I have not made much headway. It is a very difficult language.
I am more in tune with Italian and Spanish and their pronunciation. Those languages do appeal to me. And well French, I am already there. It is funny though, how, when you are in a place and not very conversant with the language, nor find the sound and manner of speaking very amenable, how much it can isolate you and give you a sense of being ostracized.
It has all been a very interesting learning experience.
Thanks for sharing these pictures of Bergerac. I love the one of the mannequin.
So, did somebody eventually come to Fargo’s aid?
Ahhh Fargo – such a character – he was always well attended to.
