Lazing in Luxembourg

The forest across the street from Capellen

Well not really.  I am taking care of Tobias, or as I like to call him, Tiboli.  He is the dog of Jose’s and Brenda’s.  Jose is an old friend of mine from my days in Toronto and now lives here just outside of the city of Luxembourg.  It is a lovely area – Capellen.

Trying to get a picture of Tobias and me ... that's a biscuit I am giving him

Luxembourg is actually a great little country.  I was here last year and loved it then.  Apparently people in Luxembourg make the highest salaries on average in Europe.  Teacher’s get paid around 115,000 – 150,000 euro!  Bus drivers – 100,000 euro.  Very unionized and pricey to live in but the salaries reflect it.

The J & B house!

One thing I love about it thought is that it is bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany, so you can get to so many places so quickly.  It may be small but it is quite central.

Across from the house heading to the forest trail

As well, another nice thing about the country, is that only about 8% of it is developed.  The rest is still forests and farmland.  So even this little suburb of Capellen is surrounded by farms and forest.

Tiboli - you make it difficult to get a picture!

Everyday, I take Tibby for a walk in the forest across the street where I am also able to do a 6 km run.  Tonnes of trails for walking and biking.  I cycled into Luxembourg the other day and it was great.  These dedicated roads to bikes and all well signed.  Such a perfect way to get around.  Good for the environment and exercise to boot.

Farm fields and forest

Brenda and Jose have been so great letting me stay here and taking care of me.  I have yet to meet their two boys – that’s next week.  But I still feel very much at home, get to speak french and get to exercise and be surrounded by history and nature.

Take me for a walk, Tibby sulks!
