Being in Bergerac

Another view of Gigi's beautiful home

Yup I have been here before, and yes I am here again.  This time house sitting for two different people, Gigi and then Dominique.  The people I have met in this lovely southwestern village in France are great.  Very friendly and very embracing.  They make great efforts to include you in their lives and to inform you of things going on so that you can get out and be social.

Gigi and the OCD, but hilarious, Lydo

This is very different than experiences I have had elsewhere so it is so refreshing.  I probably really should thank my friend Luisa for that as it was through meeting her that I came to visit Bergerac and these are all friends I met through her.  Of course Luisa and I met through couchsurfing and that was Luisa’s doing.  So once again couchsurfing works its charms.  But of course being who each and all of us are is our own strength.

Twas a full full moon - reminding me of months ago - still

As I mentioned in my last post, Gigi’s house is just lovely.  Her dogs are a hoot.  Full of character and lots of fun.  Jack Russells are such a fun and quirky breed.

The weather has been exceptional.  My Mum is visiting for the week as she had not been to France in over 60 years and I thought it would be good fun for her to come whilst I was here.

Mum on the boat on the Dordogne

The first day we roamed the old village and went for a boat excursion on the Dordogne River.  We tried some of the Bergerac wines, for free, at the wine museum and relaxed.  Yesterday I made poor Mum walk all the way to the Lake and back.  I had not realized the lake was so far.  I thought it would maybe be about 1.5 km each way but it turned out to be more like 3 or 4 km.  We would have taken a taxi back but apparently there were none.  I called.  So we just took it very easy walking back.  The real problem was that it was very hot.  Easily 31 C and my 85 year-old Mum, although in great shape, is 85 afterall.  But we made it and had a lovely dinner and relaxed.

Today, we go to the market.  Life is good.
