One of the great things regarding this house sit is that I am taking care of horses. Oh yes and one Donkey. I call him Ding Dong, but his name is Montie. He’s just funny and goofy and Ding Dong seems to be the right name for him.
But they have three other horses. Benji, a pony, who is a sweetie and who I took f or a ride yesterday, feeling far too big for him and he worked up quite the sweat, Freddie, who is Katie, the daughters special horse. I cannot ride Freddie as Freddie is still quite young and Katie is still breaking him in to work just the way she wants him too. He is a lovely horse, part thoroughbred. Every morning when I come into the barn, he has this very gentle nicker. Some horses can nicker quite loudly, but Freddie’s is low and gentle, it really is quite sweet. He is saying, here I am, good morning, and I am a little hungry.
Then there is Marmalade. Well Marmalade is my favourite as she is the one I ride a lot. She is a very good natured horse as well. They all are. And she is lovely to ride. Just like a push-button car. Very responsive, likes to trot and canter and never is stubborn to go out.
A video of me riding along with Marmalade and the dogs
So I have been having a lovely time with these guys, and given that I was born in the year of the horse, a fire horse at that, it is nice to have some time with these animals which are my totem.
Given that I am also surrounded by trails throughout the hills here, Marmalade has been my exploration vehicle. My four-legged transportation. And surprisingly, I am not nearly as sore and stiff in my thighs as I thought I would be.
But I wanted to put in a quick post about these lovelies. There are horses everywhere around here and it is such a beautiful rural and historic area, it is really the best way to get around.
This has to be one of my favourite posts just because it centers around four legged-creatures. Now, if only you could find some cows…..hint, hint.
Thanks for including that video of you riding Marmalade in that beautiful countryside. It’s amazing that Marmalade didn’t get spooked when you were multi-tasking. HAHAHA
BTW: I loved the fact that you managed to get in a shot of yourself at the end of the video. 🙂
I did see some cows and some sheep the other day but didn’t have my camera in hand 🙁
Next time you are going for a walk, make sure that you have your camera with you, so that you can take a picture of the cows and sheep. Please and thank you. 🙂
Unfortunately that might not happen as my time here is coming to an end.
