Hummingbirds. They are such amazing little birds. I love them. They don’t exist in the UK so I have not seen them for over 6 years. But now back in BC, I get the joy of watching them everyday come up to the feeder.
I have a video of one here – I believe it is the Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus). Sorry the video is not great as I took it on my phone. As they move so fast and can be skittish, I just grabbed whatever I had handy to film.
This bird is only about 3 inches long. Their wings flap so fast you can’t see them. This particular bird actually flies 2000 miles to winter in Mexico!
And despite their small size, hummingbirds can be very aggressive and you will see two of them chasing after each other if they both come up to the feeder at the same time.
I feel so lucky to be able to watch these guys. Such an amazing piece of work Mother Nature – thanks.
